Course Objective: To understand the type and quantity of data need to be collected. To learn how to organize and summarize the data. Analyzing the data and drawing conclusions from it.
Learning Outcome: The students will learn how to collect data, followed by data entry, data validation, data analyses, interpretation of the result, uses of statistical packages.
BANTMJ15C: Basic Statistics & Computer Application 4 credits
Total Marks: 50 (30 theory + 20 practical)
Unit – I: Nature of data: Quantitative and Qualitative; Discrete and Continuous variables.
Tabulation of Data - Frequency distribution, Class interval and Class limit,
Cumulative and relative frequencies; Graphical representations.
Data distribution: normal and others, z-distribution.
Measurements of Central tendency (Arithmetic Mean, Median, Mode) and Dispersion (Range, Variance, SD and SE of Mean), inferential statistics (Chi-square and t-test).
Unit – II: Use of spreadsheet for statistical analyses like MS-EXCEL, IBM-SPSS etc.
Practical 20 marks
Use of primary or secondary data, data entry, data analyses, data interpretation, and report writing. Using of any one or more statistical softwares like MS-Excel/ IBM-SPSS etc.
