Learning Objectives:

• Demonstrate awareness of political and social movements on a state, national, and global level.
• Distinguish between different types of political and social movements.
• Identify stages of political and social movements.
• Discuss theoretical perspectives on political and social movements, like resource mobilization, framing, and new social movement theory.

• Course Content: 6*6= 36 Classes (6 Classes per topic)

• Meaning of Political and Social Movements, Distinguish between Social Movements and Political Movements.
• Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), Civil Society Campaigns –the Community versus Civil Society debate.
• Dalit and Tribal Movements.
• Identity Movements: Religious and Linguistic Minority Movements.
• Agrarian and Working class movements in post-colonial India.
• Anti- Corruption Movement, Human Rights Movements and Environmental Movements.
