Course Title: Applied Psychology & Sociology in Physical Education and Sports

Course Objective: To develop the basic knowledge about psychology and sociology. To understand about the importance psychology and sociology for human development. To understand the role of physical education and sports for personality development.

Learning Outcome: Preparation of expert’s students to judge and guide psychological and sociological aspects of individual.

Unit- I: INTRODUCATION TO PSYCHOLOGY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION: (Hour-18)

    1. Meaning, Definition and Scope of Psychology.
    2. Branches, Need and Importance of Psychology.
    3. Meaning, Definition, Scope and Role of Sports Psychology.
    4. Need for Psychology in Physical Education and Sports.

Unit- II: LEARNING, MOTOR LEARNING AND TYPES OF LEARNING: (Hour-18)

    1. Meaning, Definition and Characteristics of Learning.
    2. Theories and Laws of Learning.
    1. Learning Process: Learning Curve - Meaning, Stages and Features; Learning Motor Skills.
    2. Transfer of Learning: Meaning, Definition and Types. Factors of Transfer of Learning/Training.

Unit- III: PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS (Hour-18)

    1. Motivation: Meaning, Definition, Types and Role of Motivation in Sports.
    2. Instinct and Emotion: Meaning, Definition,Types and their role in Physical Education and Sports.
    1. Stress: Meaning, Definition, Types and Causes; Role of Physical Education and Sports for Students’ Stress Relaxation.
    1. Personality: Meaning, Definition, Types and Traits; Role of Physical Education and Sports for Personality Development.

Unit- IV: SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECTS (Hour-18)

    1. Sociology: Meaning and Definition, Society and Social Group – Primary, Secondary and Remote Groups.
    1. Culture: Features, Importance, Cultural Values of Games and Sports.
    2. Leadership: Meaning, Definition and Types. Leadership and Sports Performance.
    3. Sports Related Social Issues: Empowerment, Women and Sport,Socio-economic Status and Sports Participation, Sports in Modern Society.

PROJECT CUM FIELD WORK (any one)

1. Leadership Camp

2. Excursions

Prepare a Project Report on Leadership Camp/Excursions:- Project Title, Project Organizer, Date of Project, Venue, Introduction, Objectives, Details of daily activities, Feedback of the Leadership Camp/Excursions, Conclusion.
