Syllabus:

Unit: I; Manbhum: Historical background: regional kingdoms- Barabhum and Panchet and tributary states and their relation with the British - circumstances leading to the formation of Jangal Mahal District in 1805.

Unit:2; Various Movements/Revolts in Manbhum: Bhumij/ Chuar Rebellion, Gangonaran Hungama, Kol Rebellion, Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 etc. Circumstances leading to the formation of the District of Manbhum in 1833, National movement in Manbhum District and its various phases.

Unit: 3; Language Movements: Various facets of Language Movement in Manbhum and role of Lok Sevak Sangha, Bhasa Satyagraha (1949-51) in the movement. Comparative study of Language movement in Assam and Bangladesh.

Unit: 4; State Reorganization Commission and Manbhum: Tusu Satyagraha (1954), Banga Satyagraha (1956) and Creation of new Purulia District and - its changes after joining with West Bengal.

Unit 5: Society and Economy: Rural Economy and Agriculture with Special Reference to the Lac Industry of Purulia—Role of Jor-Bundh Practice in Society of the land

Unit 6: Popular Culture of Manbhum District: The Majestic Chhou Dance of the Region—Origins and Characteristics of the Dance— A Brief History of Prominent Chhau Dancers—An overview of the Dance and Masks-Sociocultural Significance of Tusu, Bhadhu,Karam, Jhumur and Nachni
