Course Objective: To create opportunity/exposure among the students for the application of the concept that they have developed gradually in addressing various problems while exploring natural resources, geological mapping, disaster management etc.
Learning Outcome: Students will learn to find suitable methods to mitigate or minimize hazardous effects during natural disasters.
Theory:
Unit I
Natural Hazards: Concept, Types of hazards
Unit II
1. Concepts of disaster
2. Types of disaster: natural and manmade - cyclone, flood, land slide, land subsidence, fire and earthquake, tsunami and volcanic eruption
Unit III
1. Disaster management, mitigation, and preparedness
2. Techniques of monitoring and design against the disasters Management issues related to disaster
Unit IV
1. Disaster Management in India: Risk,Vulnerability and Hazard Mitigation through capacity building
2. Legislative responsibilities of disaster management; disaster mapping, assessment Pre- disaster risk & vulnerability reduction
3. Disaster preparation: Pre- disaster: reduction of risk & vulnerability; Syndisaster and Post-disaster: recovery and rehabilitation
