Course Objective: The objective of this course is to help the students to develop an understanding of the concept & techniques of essential functions of human resource management. The course will use and focus on Indian experiences, approaches and cases.
Learning Outcome: After completion of the course the student will understand the concept, utility and applications of different elements to management the human resources in the organisation successfully. They also able to describe the role and responsibility of Human resources management towards betterment.
Unit 1: Introduction to Human Resource Management (Lectures: 10)
Concept, Human Resource Management vs Personnel Management, Nature, Objectives, Importance, Evolution and Development of Human Resource Management; Function and Qualities of Human Resource Manager.
Unit 2: Human Resource Planning (Lectures: 20)
Concept and Importance of Human Resource Planning, Human Resource Planning Process, Significance and Integration with Strategic Planning; Job Analysis, Job Description, Job Specification; Recruitment: Concept, Objective and Sources of Recruitment; Selection: Meaning and Steps in Selection Process; Placement and Induction. Transfer, Promotion, Demotion, and Discharge.
Unit 3: Training and Development (Lectures: 15)
Concept, Importance and Objective of Training; Steps in Training; Training vs. Development; Training Needs Assessment; Training Methods; Evaluation of Training Programmes; Development- Meaning, Objectives and Techniques of Management Development Programme.
Unit 4: Performance Appraisal and Compensation Management (Lectures: 20)
Concept, Features, Objective and Methods of Performance Appraisal; Traditional and Modern Methods of Performance Appraisal; Problems with Performance Appraisal; Potential Appraisal; Employee Feedback;
Objective of Compensation Management; Factors affecting Compensation; Job Evaluation- Process, Methods of Evaluation; Methods of Wage payment; Fringe Benefits and Incentive Plans.
Unit 5: Human Resource Development (Lectures: 10)
Concept, Definition and Goals of HRD, HRD Mechanisms or Subsystems, Linkage between HRD Mechanisms; Process Outcomes, Organizational Effectiveness and Organizational Development, HRD Department and its task.
