Course Objective: To study the different tribal development programs. To study the tribal policies under state and national programs. To study the development and challenges in execution of policies.
Learning Outcome: To understand the tribal welfare programs, policies, development and challenges associated with it.
BANTMJ16T: TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT 6 CREDITS

Unit-I:- Genesis of Tribal Welfare regime • Colonialism and welfare of the tribe • Approaches to tribal development (Colonial and Post-Colonial) 32 • Protective Policies: Constitutional Safeguards
Unit-II:- Tribal Development in Post-Colonial India Administrative and Institutional mechanism; Changing Models (Approaches) of Tribal Development; Community Development Program; Special Multipurpose Tribal Blocks; Development Program; Tribal Development Blocks; Tribal Development Agencies; MADA Pockets; Clusters and Particularly Vulnerable Groups, TSP; Tribal Policies and Welfare programs; Impact of Welfare measures
Unit-III:- Tribes and State policies; Tribes in National development projects • Displacement, Rehabilitation and Resettlement • Tribal resistances in India (Autonomy, Statehood, Development Projects and Land rights)
Unit-IV:- Tribe and forest rights (State Policies, Forest Right Act and thereafter); Land and Resources; Tribal cultures and development, Tribal and Forest : Importance of forest for tribal’s; minor forest produce; collection; trade; marketing; LAMPS; TRIFED; Forest policies; Forest Movement; Forest and Medicine; Forest Rights Act 2006
Unit-V:- Problems of developments; role of Civil societies; migration; displacement; rehabilitation; effects of Mega projects; Experiences of Mahanadi Projects and other contemporary issues.
