Course Objective: Learning Objective and Learning Outcome: After completion of the course the students shall be able to: Know and understand the meaning and concept of Pedagogy as science of teaching. Understand and explain the relationship between teaching and learning.

Learning Objective and Learning Outcome:

After completion of the course the students shall be able to:

  1. Know and understand the meaning and concept of Pedagogy as science of teaching.
  2. Understand and explain the relationship between teaching and learning.
  3. Explain the teaching process and its input and output variables.
  4. Know and understand the Maxims of Teaching.
  5. Understand and explain the nature of classroom teaching and Functions of a teacher.
  6. Distinguish between traditional and constructivist teaching.
  7. Know and understand the various influencing factors of teaching methods.
  8. Know about various teaching methods and their utilities in classroom teaching learning process.
  9. Understand the various Phases of Teaching such as Pre-active, Inter-active & Post-active.
  10. Understand the various Levels of Teaching.
  11. Identify the families of Models of Teaching.

Course Contents:

Unit-I: Teaching

  1. Science of Teaching – relation between teaching and learning; Pedagogy, Andragogy, and Heutagogy
  2. Factors affecting teaching process – input and output variables
  3. General principles of teaching – maxims of teaching, fundamentals of teaching

Unit-II: Teacher and Classroom Teaching

  1. Nature of classroom teaching – Teaching, Instruction and Indoctrination
  2. Differences between traditional behaviouristic teaching and constructivist teaching
  3. Functions of a teacher as a planner, as a facilitator, as a counsellor, as a researcher

Unit-III: Phases, Levels, and Models of Teaching

  1. Phases of Teaching – Pre-active, Inter-active and Post-active
  2. Levels of Teaching – Memory, Understanding, Reflective
  3. Models of Teaching – Concept, Components, Families, Bruner’s Concept Attainment Model and Asubel’s Advance Organizer Model
